Ischnochiton bergoti (Velain, 1877)
This three-quarter inch chiton is elongated oval in shape and highly
arched. The color of the valves is variable: whitish, creamy, tawny,
light brown or reddish brown. The lateral areas are little raised and
minutely granulose. The central areas are minutely granulated in
forwardly converging rows. The girdle is narrow, light colored and
covered with rounded, imbricating scales.
Illustrated specimens are from the Burghardt Collection and were
collected by Alan Seccombe at Kommetjie, Atlantic Cape Coast, South
Africa. The rust colored specimen was collected near old oil drums.
